Squeezed into an enclave surrounded by Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Albania and Greece, Macedonia is hot and mountainous. The climate here is extremely favorable to wine cultivation and its 35,000 ha/ 86,450 acres of wine yards produce table grapes, red wine in a great quantity and a little white.

Considerable quantities of wine of both
colors are produced, the vast majority of which are consumed locally. Macedonia has some good modern wine yards planted with the most famous French grape varieties including the local Vranac, the less well-known red Kratosija (often blended with Vranac), as well as the white Zilavka. Viticulture in Macedonia is as rich and varied in potential.
